課程概述

As IPCC notes, reaching net zero anthropogenic CO2 emissions in the next three
decades is a requirement to limit warming to 1.5 °C. It would require rapid and far- reaching system transitions in energy, land, urban infrastructure, and industrial systems, which are unprecedented in terms of scale. However, this Hercules ambition is becoming mainstream, countries with net-zero targets together represent 61% of global emissions and net-zero targets already become legally binding in 14 nations. Taiwan is also working on net-zero pathway, and the congressmen from different political parties and the climate advocates are pushing hard to make it legally binding. But the fundamental change in all sectors needs a wide portfolio of mitigation options and a significant upscaling of investments.

課程目標
This course intends to help the students to learn about the global net-zero transitions and the implications for the climate policy and mitigation measures of Taiwan. The course will focus on future emission scenarios and policy options. Moreover, students will learn about the best practices of climate action among different sectors. Several interactive tools will be introduced during the course, including 2050 calculator, energy policy simulator, and climate board game, to deepen the knowledge of crucial policy instruments.
Since the whole society needs more skilled practitioners at the government, corporate and NGOs to accelerate the net-zero transition, this course sets up five learning objectives for the students:
1. Deep understanding of the net-zero terminology.
2. Comprehending the principle and function of emission scenarios and pathways. 3. Preliminary data analysis ability for the emissions drivers identification,
climate performance benchmarking.
4. Learning the basics of climate policy mixes.
5. Griping the knowledge network for climate change issues.
